EFAW: 1 day

This qualification is for individuals who want to become emergency first-aiders in the workplace. It is suitable for organisations that require staff to be trained at this level based on their first-aid needs assessment. The course involves 7 hours of learning, typically completed in one day, with at least 6 hours of contact time. Learners will gain knowledge of a first aider’s roles and responsibilities and how to assess incidents. Practical skills covered include CPR, use of an AED, assisting choking casualties, and managing external bleeding and hypovolaemic shock. This training ensures readiness for workplace first aid situations.

FAW: 3 day

This qualification is for individuals wishing to become workplace first-aiders. It meets the training requirements for organisations that have identified a need for staff to be trained to this level through a first-aid needs assessment. The course requires 22 hours of learning, usually over three days, with at least 18 hours of direct contact time. Topics include the roles and responsibilities of a first-aider, assessing incidents, and recognising signs and symptoms of injury and illness. It also covers practical skills such as CPR, use of an AED, and managing major injuries and illnesses, including anaphylaxis and spinal or chest injuries.

Emergency care for first responders: 4 days

This qualification supports roles involving emergency medical care as a first responder at accidents or emergencies. Suitable roles include security operatives, event medics, cabin crew, and community first responders. Learners will cover incident assessment, CPR for all age groups, oxygen therapy, and managing catastrophic bleeding. It also includes care for major injuries and illnesses like chest or spinal injuries, heart attacks, and anaphylaxis. Aligned with Category D of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Medicine Framework, it prepares individuals for various emergencies. Valid for three years, the qualification requires reassessment upon expiry, with annual knowledge refreshment recommended.

First Aid at Work – Requalification

2 day course
This course is for people who wish to renew an existing First Aid at Work certificate. If your certificate has expired, you can still take part in this course, but the HSE recommends you attend the First Aid at Work (3-day course) if more than a month has elapsed. This course is an intensive course with little practice time and is specifically for people whose certificate is still in date. You will be required to work at the pace of the course.
